PZC has been involved in conducting over 400 training programs on a wide range of topics for over 15,000 local officials including planning and zoning commissioners, zoning board of appeals members, zoning administrators and other local officials. Over 40 specialized research projects have been completed in a wide range of areas. These have resulted in publications which have substantially contributed to improving the quality of planning, zoning, and environmental projects in Michigan. These projects have helped local communities solve existing problems or prevent future ones, or seize emerging opportunities. Several awards have recognized the significance of these efforts.
Since it was first founded in 1982, the Planning & Zoning Center, Inc. has published the only state-specific monthly magazine on planning and zoning issues in the entire country. Each month, Planning & Zoning News (PZC) offers its nearly 3,000 subscribers:
- a summary of recent case law
- attorney general opinions
- pending legislation
- a feature story on an issue of contemporary interest
- practical guidance on typical planning and zoning issues
- information on a variety of new publications
- training opportunities and conferences and notices.
Each December, PZC publishes a special issue of along with a five year cumulative index of the past issues of Planning & Zoning News. Feature articles from all past PZN volumes are found under the heading "Feature Articles" The December issue of PZN is the only time during the year where we accept paid advertising.
Planning & Zoning News has become a necessity for those who subscribe, as demonstrated by its more than 95% annual renewal rate since its inception. Publishing Planning & Zoning News requires PZC associates to continually stay abreast of contemporary issues and state-of-the art techniques for addressing land resource management, community planning, land use trends, zoning techniques, pending legislation, and infrastructure management issues.
As the Planning & Zoning Center, Inc. looks to the new millennium, associates are sensitive to changing trends and look forward to being involved in contemporary, cutting-edge projects.
