1 mil would raise $48,000 per year, which would pay off the needed loan in 3.5 years .5 mil would raise $24,000 per year, which would pay off the needed loan in 6.25 years .25 mil would raise $12,000 per year, which would pay off the needed loan in 12.5 years 1/8 mil would raise $6,000 per year, which would pay off the needed loan in 25 years This of course does not include any interest charges on the loan.
Sample cost at various millage rates: Taxable Value 1 mil .5 mil .25 mil $465,936.00 $465.94 $232.97 $116.48 $230,300.00 $230.30 $115.15 $57.58 $145,864.00 $145.86 $72.93 $36.47 $66,008.00 $66.01 $33.00 $16.50 $27,782.00 $27.78 $13.89 $6.95 $3,980.00 $3.98 $1.99 $1.00
Tom Graham said that the property was assessed four years ago at $250,000.
There were 26 attendees at the discussion. The general feeling was that the Township should pursue the purchase of the Cross Property.
Comments and Questions:
Could the Conservancy buy the property to save it? Apparently not. Will the presence of the Cross-on public property present a problem? This is being looked into. Thanks to Tom Graham for his forbearance and generosity. A new Cross is needed and benches would be nice. Would the County possibility do this? What about the upkeep? The Township would need to undertake this expense. Could it be combined with the current conservancy parcel? What are the current finances of the Township and how is the money being spent? What about donations? What about the tribe? Can grants be written to several places for support of this purchase? Possibly use a historical designation and get a State historical marker. Put the land in historical and conservation easement. Save the view. Public Comments were closed and the Board discussed possible millage rates along with the pros and cons of various rates.
Motion to adjourn at 7:50 pm the meeting made by Trustee Schlappi and supported by Clerk Reck. Motion carried.
