Friendship Township Recreation Committee - Minutes of January 17, 2005 committee meeting.

Called to order 7 pm at the Friendship Township Hall.
Present: Rob Parson, Caroline Kurburski, Hugh Melling, Wilbur Kurburski, Dale Scott

Rob Parson and Dale Scott accepted position as co-chairs of the Recreation Committee.

Discussed upcoming update of 2001 Recreation Plan. As stated in the Resolution to Recommend Adoption of the Friendship Township Recreation Plan of 2001 to the Friendship Township Board , the plan is a Five-Year plan. In order to retain the credibility of the plan, it needs to be updated during 2006. Scott will try to find originals of the document.

Discussed and agreed that Friendship Township’s appointed member to the Middle Village Park Management Committee needs to be a member of the Friendship Township Recreation Committee.

Scott reported on discussion with Paul Mooradian about the potential development of connecting trailways through his 240 acres that is located between the 40 acre and 80 acre parcels that are owned by the township. Paul M. stated that he is willing to consider some kind of arrangement that might allow such public trails. Scott will give Melling a copy of Mooradian’s site plan. Melling will work on mapping that can describe possible routes for trails.

2005-2006 Budget discussion.
$500 Mapping of township property (with Mooradian’s in between) to include trails, cemetery expansion, cremains scattering area, picnic area, etc. Costs may incurred to purchase and/or print maps that include topographic info., etc. (Melling will spearhead this)

$100 Publicity. This would cover printing, etc., of an info-flyer that could be included in a tax mailing. Purpose would be to gain members, announce plans for upgrades, and possible Plan survey.

$1800 Contracting for assistance with arborist Ben Veling. Veling is the person that we hired a couple of years ago to review status of our township owned forests. These dollars would include possible assistance in the following areas:
Preparation of a public info announcement for stuffing into tax bills;
Review and assistance in site plan development;
Presentation of site plan & recommendations to the township;
Assistance with implementation during 2005 – 2006 fiscal year.

$1500 Rental of a chipper to use during trail development.

$3000 Upgrade township hall by installing a wood floor.

$1500 Develop plans to install a kitchenette and upgrade wiring at township hall (Scott will look into this)

$0 Middle Village Park Management Committee.

$8400 Total proposed expenditures for fiscal year 2005-2006

Next meeting will be held on March 1st, 2005 at 7pm at the township hall.
