Friendship Township Planning Commission Town Meeting Monday, September 27, 7:00PM Friendship Township Hall
Friendship Township adopted its Master Plan last year. While working on this Plan, one of the comments heard over and over again is that people want to retain the rural nature of the township. Density of housing is one of the factors that affect this. The density of housing is directly related to the size of lots. Most of the township is zoned Farm-Forest-2 (FF-2), which requires two acres per lot and 200 feet of frontage. The corridor surrounding M-119 and Lower Shore Drive is zoned Scenic Resource-2 (SR-2), which requires 0.69 acres and 150 feet of frontage. A third zoning district in the township is Recreation Residential-2 (RR-2). It requires 0.5 acres per lot and 100 feet of frontage. There are several areas of RR-2 in the township, but the subject of this meeting is the RR-2 east of the SR-2 along M-119.
One idea for helping to preserve the rural nature of the township is to require larger resulting lots from a split. What do you think of changing the RR-2 east of M-119 to FF-2 so that, in the event of a split, larger lots would be required? At the Friendship Township Planning Commission meeting on September 27 at 7:00 PM, the Planning Commission will be talking about the advantages and disadvantages of such a change. Public participation is encouraged.
The differences in the zoning districts will be discussed at this meeting. The area and frontage requirements are just two of the differences. There are others as well, such as side-yard setbacks and permitted uses, which will be presented.
Please note that no action has been taken to initiate this change. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss options and gather residents’ opinions of this idea.
