HARBOR, Inc. initiated a feasibility study for a trail connection in the vicinity of Harbor Springs Public Schools and connecting with Hoyt and Quick Roads. That study was completed in early 2008 and can be viewed in its entirety. The HARBOR Inc. executive committee along with city and township officials and consultant Emily Meyerson walked the Hoyt Road stretch between Lake Street and Quick Road (see photos to the right and below) to look at possible problems and solutions. The trail is proposed to be located on the west side of the roadway. In early 2010, an application was made to the Safe Routes to Schools program and results of that application are expected to be announced in 2010. The City of Harbor Springs also regraded the former reservoir site in anticipation of the future trail. Several important steps were also completed along with the Safe Routes application, including resolutions passed at local public agencies. Those resolutions are available here.
