Minutes

Financial Report

Kathy Erber presented an overview of the financial report for the year to date. Total receipts are below last year’s level and total expenses slight exceed last year’s level. Fundraising efforts are just beginning and grant money is still coming in.

Recreation Committee

Danna reported on the progress of the Recreation Committee. The process is continuing with doing an inventory of recreational opportunities. One of the items on the ‘wish list’ is tennis courts and now a new tennis facility is opening so that will come off of the list. Some needs are being met by the private sector, such as the tennis facility. The Kiwanis Park project is continuing.

Discussion took place about a joint recreation plan idea for the area that is DNR approved. A suggestion was made to include a water trail. Work continues by the trails committee to inventory non motorized trails. The group is almost ready with input for open spaces.

Bike Path

MDOT has assigned staff and will soon start the process of bidding out the design work.

Grants

The Petoskey Harbor Springs Community Foundation awarded a grant to HARBOR, Inc. for an educational program entitled “Filling the Gaps: Environmental Protection Options for Local Governmental Officials.”

Bylaws

A bylaws change was presented to strike the work “or by proxy” from the quorum section of the bylaws when referring to attendance/voting at the annual meeting. Dika moved, Dohm seconded, to approve the change. Motion Carried.

Annual Meeting

The annual meeting for HARBOR, Inc. is August 9—an optional 6 p.m. dinner and a 7 p.m. meeting. This year’s theme is Renew the Vision.

Marketing

The Executive Committee and a few other board members have been meeting to come up with a ‘tag line’ that will describe HARBOR, Inc. and simply clarify who we are. The group has been working with a marketing consultant. We’ll keep you posted as to the progress!

General Discussion

Discussion took place regarding the state process for thinning state land.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:02 a.m.
