Long Term Goals of H.A.R.B.O.R., Inc.
The Harbor Area Regional Board of Resources, Inc. (HARBOR, Inc.) seeks to encourage and enable long-term thinking and the continuation of the visioning process among community members in the greater Harbor Springs area. To achieve success, the following represent long term goals and related strategies of the organization.
GOAL: Provide overall stewardship of the community’s vision statement.
- Continue to update the vision statement.
- Deliver that vision to local municipal and non-profit groups through meeting attendance, written and electronic communication, public forums and other means of communication.
GOAL: Encourage awareness of local issues of importance to the area.
- Provide ways to promote greater awareness of the activities of local municipal boards, commissions and councils through electronic and written communication.
- Archive past information for access by the community.
- Stay abreast of current events.
GOAL: Promote understanding of local issues through education.
- Provide opportunities for government officials and community members to review land use, zoning and planning policies and opportunities for these officials to interact on these subjects.
- Promote the benefits of cooperation and communication among all government and public boards, commissions, and councils.
GOAL: Identify and pursue special projects with regional impacts.
- Pursue only those projects that promote communication and cooperation among participants.
- Pursue only those projects that inform, educate and assist the members of HARBOR, Inc. in achieving the vision of the community.
GOAL: Involve citizens of the community in achieving their vision.
- Strengthen and reinvigorate the existing HARBOR, Inc. citizen committees and coordinate a cohesive community network to collect, organize and distribute citizen information to local governing bodies.
DESIRED OUTCOME:
The development of a community of involved, empowered and inspired citizens, government officials and volunteers distinguished by their cooperation and communication. A community of individual citizens willing and eager to help define and create our shared future based on what we envision today.
