FEMA Preliminary Floodplain Information
FEMA has developed new preliminary floodplain maps that identify two types of flood hazards impacting West Traverse Township:
- Inland flooding at the start of the Shay Drain at the south end of the Township along Franklin Street and State Road.
- Coastal flooding at various places along the Lake Michigan shoreline.
Representatives from FEMA will host a Flood Map Information Open House for Emmet County on August 15, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Harbor Springs City Hall, 160 Zoll Street. The open house will provide the most current information about flood risk, flood insurance, and floodplain development regulations. The newly prepared preliminary floodplain maps will be on display.
Below are details on the Open House and maps showing the flood hazards in the Township.
The coastal maps are not all-inclusive. They are best viewed at the following link: http://arcg.is/0qLOTy. Drill down to West Traverse Township, click on the "Basemap gallery" icon at the left, and select "Imagery Hybrid" at the right. The areas of higher flooding concern are in yellow and are labelled "AE".
