The Hammerhead Swim Club started in the summer of 1990 with about 25 swimmers under the leadership of Marilyn Early. In the fall of 1990 we swam as part of the Traverse City Team. In the fall of 1991 we went on our own and had a handful of swimmers attend the State Championship. The next two years we grew significantly.

In 1995 the Hammerheads began to rise in the rankings of the Michigan Team Swim League after finishing 4th at the State Meet. In 1997 our 8 and Under Boys were State Champions. 1999 was a breakthrough year with the 9 and 10 Boys winning their age group and the Hammerheads caputring their first Team Championship. Since 1999, the Hammerheads have won the State Championships four times, were Runner-up five times, and placed 3rd once. Along with our 17 age group State Titles and 9 League Records, the Hammerhead Swim Club has emerged as one of the top teams in the Michigan Team Swim League.
