The next Lifeguard class will take place in April following Spring Break. 

A waiting list has begun for a new Lifeguard Class. A minimum of 5 participants is needed for a new class. The course usually runs 3 nights a week for 4 weeks. Upon completion of the course, you will hold a certification in Lifeguarding, CPR, and First Aid. The Lifegaurd and First Aid certification are good for 3 years. The CPR certification needs to be renewed every year.

Qualifications for the class are as follows.

• The candidate must be 15 years old.

• The candidate must swim 500 yds (20 lengths) continuosly in the following order:200 yds of front crawl using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing, propellant kick100 yds of breaststroke200 yds of either front crawl or breaststroke. This may be a mixture of front crawl and breaststroke.

• The candidate must swim 20 yds using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a depth of 7-10 ft, retrieve a 10-pound brick, return to the surface, and swim 20 yds back to the starting point.*When returning to the starting point, the candidate must hold the 10-pound brick with both hands and must keep his or her face above the water.
